Our History

About Liberty And Where We Are Going

Liberty Regional Medical Center is still referred to by many as Liberty Memorial Hospital. The hospital was dedicated and opened to serve Liberty County on December 3, 1961 as a 28-bed acute care hospital.

In 1974, adding 28,000 square feet, which increased the beds from 28 to 50, expanded the hospital. Areas that were renovated and enlarged during this time included Radiology, Laboratory, Emergency Room, Obstetrics, Dietary Services, and Administration. In an effort to serve continuing education needs of the hospital employees, the Hospital Authority constructed the Fraser Conference Center in 1982. The hospital's education building was dedicated in honor of Dr. Whitman Fraser.

An 8,000 square foot renovation and addition to Liberty Memorial Hospital was completed in 1993.  Departments that were included in this project were Registration, Physical Therapy, Cardiopulmonary, Laboratory, and the Emergency Department.

The Hospital Authority of Liberty County changed the name of the hospital from Liberty Memorial Hospital to Liberty Regional Medical Center on July 1, 1994.

On May 28, 1997, the Hospital Authority, Liberty County Commissioners, and Hinesville City Council united together to break ground at the Lewis Ashmore Medical Park to build the future home of Liberty Regional Medical Center.

On November 22, 1998, the Hospital Authority of Liberty County celebrated the Grand Opening of Liberty Regional Medical Center's new 70,000 square foot facility located in the Lewis Ashmore Medical Park on Highway 196 West in Hinesville.

Today, Liberty Regional is a very busy, full service medical center which sees over 50,000 patients a year (approximately 27,000 through its Emergency Department alone.) Utilizing advanced technology, world-class physicians and a highly qualified, caring staff of nurses and other clinical and non-clinical personnel, the hospital offers our community advanced healthcare services with the personalized care you and your family deserve.
